THE PACKING LIST

Six kinds of pieces.
One complete rod.

These are the confirmed standard kit contents. Colour examples in the photographs do not mean two rods arrive in one kit.

01

SAO-TABI rod

The fishing tool at the centre of the kit. A light fixed-line setup connects at the rod tip; a reel is not part of this approach.

01

Wooden case

Keeps the rod and small field pieces together when packed. Dry your gear before returning it to storage.

02

Wood line holders

Keep line organised when it is off the rod. The holders are included; line rigs are not.

01

Baiting / hook-removal tool

A small tool for handling bait and assisting with hook removal. Use it carefully around fine hooks and fish.

01

Wooden bait box

A separate place for the bait you bring. Bait itself is not supplied with the standard kit.

01

Japanese-style handmade storage pouch

A fabric carry layer around the packed kit. The style and handmade construction describe the pouch; it is not a claim that the whole kit is made in Japan.

Add your own fishing essentials

Line rig, hooks, float and bait suited to your water and method. Line rigs, floats and bait are not included. Ask JFL about compatibility before ordering if you are unsure.

IS IT FOR YOU?

A focused kit
for a focused session.

A good starting point if…

  • You want to explore tanago or micro fishing with a light fixed-line setup.
  • You can fish close, accessible water from a stable bank.
  • You enjoy short sessions and keeping a small set of pieces together.
  • You are happy to choose and prepare your own rig, float and bait.

Consider other gear if…

  • You need a reel or long casts to reach the water you want to fish.
  • You plan to target large fish or use heavy tackle.
  • Your spot involves strong flow, surf, steep banks or difficult access.
  • You want a ready-to-fish package with line, float and bait already supplied.

Suitability depends on the spot, conditions and setup. These are planning suggestions, not strength ratings or catch guarantees.

A SHORT-SESSION CHECKLIST

Pack deliberately.
Prepare at the water.

BEFORE LEAVING

Choose the stop.

  1. Check permission, local fishing rules and the conditions at your chosen spot.
  2. Pack the rod, wooden case, both line holders, tool, bait box and pouch.
  3. Add a suitable light rig, hooks, float and bait. Bring what you need to land and handle fish carefully.
  4. Keep hooks secure and allow room to return damp items separately.
AT THE WATER

Check before extending.

  1. Assess the bank, flow, overhead space and the fish you intend to target.
  2. Lay out the pieces on stable ground; prepare your line and bait.
  3. Extend the rod gently, section by section, and attach a compatible fixed-line rig. Ask JFL if you need setup guidance.
  4. After the session, remove the rig, collapse carefully and dry the pieces before storage.

BEFORE YOU BUY

A few useful answers.

Is this ready to fish straight out of the pouch?

The core rod and carry pieces are included. You still need a suitable line rig, hooks, float and bait, and time to prepare them.

Do the two rod colours mean I receive two rods?

No. Each standard kit includes one rod. The photograph with two rods shows colour examples. Review the selected option on JFL before ordering.

Does the kit use a reel?

The current kit is for light fixed-line micro fishing. The line attaches at the rod tip; this is not a reel-based casting setup.

Can I use it for any river, lake or fish?

Choose close, accessible small water suited to a light presentation and small fish. This site does not provide a maximum fish size, strength rating or guarantee. If your plan needs long casts or heavy tackle, consider other gear.

What does the Japanese-style pouch claim mean?

It describes the style and handmade construction of the storage pouch. It does not establish where every component was manufactured or mean that the entire kit is made in Japan.

Where can I check stock, options and delivery?

Use the existing JFL product page for current price, availability and choices. JFL also handles checkout, shipping and after-sales support.

Are Tenkara, Lure or Fly products available from SAOTABI?

Those are future exploration directions. No SAOTABI products, preorders or release dates are announced for those directions here.
